Our journey with Fintraffic: Revolutionizing passenger information delivery

Our long-standing partnership with the Finnish traffic management operator Fintraffic and its predecessor organisations has been marked by continuous technological advancements and a shared commitment to improving the passenger experience. Over the decades, this collaboration has ensured that passengers are always informed about departures, arrivals, platform details and announcements at Finnish railway stations.

A legacy of over 3,000 displays delivered

Throughout partnership with Fintraffic we have delivered more than 3,000 displays to train stations all over Finland. This extensive deployment has seen old technology replaced and new lines equipped with the latest displays. In 2024, around 1,000 displays are actively in use. Throughout the evolution of technologies, we have consistently provided high-quality, reliable, and innovative solutions to enhance the functionality and efficiency of passenger information.

Our long-standing partnership with Teleste has transformed the way we deliver information to our passengers from the first LCD displays in 1995 to the advanced TFT LCD and RGB LED displays of today.  Teleste’s commitment to excellence and innovation ensures that our passengers receive timely and accurate updates, making their travel experience smooth and enjoyable.

The dawn of the digital era: LCD displays in 1995

In 1995, we delivered the first LCD displays to Finnish train stations. This initial delivery marked the beginning of a technological revolution in passenger information systems. These early LCD displays replaced the older mechanical displays like split-flap displays that were limited in the amount of information they could present. The new LCD displays, installed at key locations such as Helsinki Central Station, brought a significant improvement in visual clarity and the volume of information that could be conveyed.

Advancing technology: TFT LCD displays in 2004

By 2004, we had begun delivering TFT LCD displays, which soon replaced the earlier LCD technology. The transition to TFT LCDs offered numerous advantages, including superior image quality, brightness, and versatility. These displays could show dynamic content such as text, images, and videos, greatly enhancing the clarity and richness of the information presented to passengers. The deployment of TFT LCDs started in major stations like Helsinki Central, Tampere, and Turku and eventually spread to smaller stations, ensuring a consistent and high-quality passenger experience across the network.

The modern era: RGB LED main displays in 2015 and 2021

In 2015, we introduced the RGB LED main outdoor display at Helsinki Central Station. This state-of-the-art display, the first of its kind in Finland, brought unparalleled brightness, visibility, and colour versatility to the railway network. In 2021, this display was followed by the main indoor display of the latest RGB LED technology. These displays provide real-time updates on train schedules, platform information, and other critical announcements. Its vibrant display and high visibility ensure that passengers can easily access important information, enhancing their overall travel experience.

Teleste Hub for centralised display management

A modern passenger information system is not only about the excellent hardware but also about their management. To ensure that each of our displays for Fintraffic operates smoothly, they are today all managed through the Teleste Hub passenger information software. The software provides real-time diagnostics and content management, and ensures that that each display conveys accurate, up-to-date information.
