Teleste S-ARRIVE: Your top FAQs answered
Below you can find answers to some of the questions our customers most commonly ask related to our S-ARRIVE® on-board passenger information software. We hope they help you increase understanding of the software’s purpose and its adaptability to your needs.
1) If I want to use S-ARRIVE, will it state which hardware I can use?
Basically, all Teleste hardware is compatible with the S-ARRIVE solution. However, with some hardware, it is not possible to use all parts of S-ARRIVE. Examples of this include IPEP passenger communication units and DTP crew phones, with which you cannot use VoIP/SIP audio communication.
2) Is S-ARRIVE only available for new trains or is it also suitable for renovation projects?
S-ARRIVE is suitable for both new trains and renovation projects, as long as Ethernet network is used for communication between Teleste devices. Renovation projects are typically a bit trickier due to older HW and SW interfaces, so they might require more custom modules. However, S-ARRIVE can be effectively used in renovation projects as well.
3) Is S-VMX part of S-ARRIVE?
S-VMX is an independent Teleste product designed for the management of live and recorded security video. However, S-ARRIVE includes an interface to S-VMX, which allows you to, for example, include journey specific metadata in CCTV recordings and gather diagnostics of the CCTV system in the same place as S-ARRIVE -related diagnostics.
4) Is PICS part of S-ARRIVE?
PICS is a tool used to create content for the Journey Tracking and Announcement Control modules of S-ARRIVE. Although it is not a part of the actual S-ARRIVE software that runs on-board, it is closely related as it creates the passenger information database for S-ARRIVE.
5) Is S-ARRIVE something I can just plug and play? Do I need any custom modules?
It is possible to use S-ARRIVE as such. However, the configuration depends on the amount and type of the hardware components used, so each project using S-ARRIVE will be configured based on customer needs. Typically, at least an interface to the train control and management system (TCMS) is implemented as a custom module.
6) Are custom-made software solutions still part of Teleste’s portfolio?
Yes, S-ARRIVE does not limit the amount of customization. It is possible to replace almost all S-ARRIVE modules with custom-made ones and create custom modules on top of S-ARRIVE as needed. However, adding custom modules requires more project work, such as design, implementation, documentation, testing, and management, which can affect the project schedule and costs. Essentially, all projects using S-ARRIVE will need at least one custom module: an interface to the train control and management system (TCMS).
7) How is S-ARRIVE maintained and upgraded?
S-ARRIVE is included in project-specific update packages that we provide to our customers. These update packages also include project-specific configuration and possible custom modules. S-ARRIVE modules are continually developed and tested, and new versions are released on a regular basis. This allows for future S-ARRIVE upgrades in customer projects.
8) Can I be sure that my S-ARRIVE solution is thoroughly tested?
Yes, S-ARRIVE undergoes thorough testing and a validation process to ensure it meets industry standards and expectations and provides the best value for your investment. One of its key advantages is that by utilizing pre-tested modules and software parts, the need for project-specific testing is reduced, which shortens the lead time for software deliverables.
